Ron Flores: Bio

Ron Flores

Hi, I'm Ron Flores and I hail from Phoenix, Arizona. My musical background starts way back when I was just 5-years old. This is the age that I started playing piano. I was exposed to Spanish and Mexican music from my parents. My Grandmother, who was part French and Dutch, loved to listen to Beethoven, Mozart, and Debussy.

Liberace was my first influence on the piano. Through his television show, I learned to develope my left hand technique and scales. He played Classical music, Polkas, and Spanish styles. At age 10, I started playing guitar - Spanish, Country and Folk. Then at age 13, the Beatles shocked the world with their style of music. I wanted to be like Paul McCartney, so I became a bass player. And that's when I became a professional musician, over 40 years ago.

In High School, I was in the Concert Orchestra. I went to Phoenix College on a music scholarship. I took Jazz Band, Orchestra, composition, and theory, while I was giging at night with a seven piece horn band. We played Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, Sly and the Family Stone, Santana, and Tower of Power. Through the many years, I've played in a variety of bands whose styles were: Pop music, Soul, Funk, Disco, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Country.

In order to pay the bills and put food on the table, I had to change styles of playing according to the music trends. I suppose that's the reason why I write music in so many styles. I've been told by people in the recording industry that this is a bad thing. Because the Fans can't pin you down to one style like: George Benson-Jazz Artist, Allen Jackson-Country Artist, or Bon Jovi -Rock Artist. I love music in its many forms from all over the world; just like the Beatles did, and like Paul Simon and Sting does today. I think, because of the internet, people are more worldly, more intelligent, and more open to different styles of music from ONE artist. So I guess my catagory will have to be:

RON FLORES - "SUPRISE ARTIST"
